Sessions

Use the Sessions activity to return to current Zide Assist sessions or review conversations saved for the project.

To show Sessions, click its activity-bar icon or click Assist > Sessions. The panel title, Zide Assist Sessions, distinguishes these from terminal or CLI-agent sessions.

Sessions are grouped into the collapsible Active Sessions and Past Sessions sections. When past sessions span multiple date ranges, static labels divide them into Today, Previous 7 Days, Previous 30 Days, and Earlier; a redundant date label is omitted when every result belongs to the same range. Active sessions show whether Zide is Working, Needs you for a decision, or is Ready for your next message; these states match Session Watch. The row corresponding to the selected Zide Assist tab is highlighted in either section. Active-session titles update immediately when their Zide Assist tabs are renamed. Selecting an active session focuses its existing tab. Selecting saved sessions navigates one reusable read-only preview tab, so browsing history does not accumulate tabs. Pin a preview to keep it, or use the row menu’s Open in New Tab command for a separate tab. A saved session becomes active only when you choose Continue this conversation. Hover a relative time to see its exact local timestamp.

Open Session history settings (the gear button) and enable Save Sessions to save new conversations into history. Saving is off by default. Saved sessions remain local to the repository in .zide/local/session-log/.

Click New Session to start a Zide Assist session.

Click Continue this conversation in an opened saved transcript when you want to resume it.

Use a saved session’s kebab menu, or right-click the card, to access its secondary actions:

ActionDescription
Open in New TabKeeps the saved transcript in a separate read-only Zide Assist tab instead of the reusable preview.
ExportExports the session as a Markdown file.
DeleteDeletes the session.

Filters and settings

Click the Filter button to search sessions by title or limit the historical date range. Active sessions remain visible when a historical date filter is applied.

Click Session history settings to enable or disable saving or to Purge Old Sessions. When saving is enabled, no status banner is shown; a warning appears when saving is disabled.
